Carl, schwedischer Bildhauer, * Lagga (bei Uppsala) 23. 6. 1875, ✝ Lidingö 19. 9. 1955; studierte ab 1897 bei A. Rodin in Paris, 1904-06 in München, wo ihn besonders A. von Hildebrand beeindruckte. 1920-31 war er Professor an der Kunstakademie in Stockholm, 1931-51 lehrte er in Detroit (Michigan). Nach seiner Rückkehr lebte er abwechselnd in Schweden und Italien. Milles' Frühwerk zeigt einen kompakten, voluminösen Stil, der auch archaische Züge enthält (Folkungamonument in Linköping, 1927 vollendet). Charakteristisch für die Reifezeit sind ausdrucksvoll bewegte Figuren (Orpheusbrunnen vor dem Konzerthaus in Stockholm, 1930-36; Auferstehungsfontäne in Washington, D. C., 1951 vollendet). Milles' Haus und Atelier in Lidingö sind heute Museum Millesgården.
